Expert: Do not get greedy when buying abroad

October 18 2008 | Category: India: Property

Investors buying property in locations such as India should be as careful as they would when purchasing a home in the UK, according to an expert.

Paul Owen, chief executive of the Association of International Property Professionals, says people looking to invest abroad should keep their wits about them.

In his top tips, Mr Owen advises employing an independent lawyer and not just opting for the one the developer offers.

"You should not jump on a plane and go to a foreign country and not use a lawyer and that lawyer should only be working for you not the developer," he added.

Mr Owen also advises not getting greedy, when purchasing in locations such as India, which may be cheaper than in the UK.

He also says any buyers should do their homework on the market, the agents and developers.

Cater Allan private bank recently released research which states around three million people will buy a house abroad over the next two years.ADNFCR-1123-ID-18832789-ADNFCR
