How we think

Our Operating Culture

  • We have a bias for action
    • There are three kinds of people: those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, those who wonder what happened. Which are you?
    • You have the authority to act.
  • We do the right things for the right reasons.
    • Do you have a moral compass? Find one and follow it. Remember, integrity is what you do when nobody is watching.
  • We respect each other, our customers and our employees.
    • Play nice in the sandbox
    • The Golden Rule still applies. Treat others as you would be treated
  • We take full responsibility for our successes and failures.
    • We do not pass the buck! We accept success with humility.
  • We have positive relationships everywhere.
    • Without sales, we have no reason to come to work every day. Finance helps us make our numbers and money. Service takes care of our customers.
    • Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
  • We don’t escalate issues until we have tried to resolve them ourselves.
    • Deal with the individual. You must be able to manage up, down and sideways. Give people the opportunity to get it right.
  • We believe in loyalty above all else, except honesty.
    • We cover each other’s backs. We don’t cover up dishonesty.
  • We respect diversity and embrace the perspective that a diverse workforce can bring to our organization.
    • Our team  is a model for any company
  • We ask for help when needed, we provide help when asked.
  • No Surprises.
    • I want to know good news early and bad news even earlier.

    • We don’t hide problems; we bring them into the open and resolve them.
  • We use email and voicemail appropriately.
    • Return your messages in a timely fashion. You can responsive without being reactive.
    • Keep your contact information and calendar current

Open Philosophy
We don’t have a problem with mistakes and failure.  In fact we encourage it.

That is our formula for success.   Different huh!

Read the biographies of the following and you see that we are in good company.

Investors:  Paul Getty, Michael Bloomberg, Warren Buffett
Sport:  Muhammad Ali, David Beckham, Sebastian Coe
Business:  Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos (Amazon)

Learning from these success giants you will realise that how they react to failures and mistakes gives them their key to success.  They realise that the more action you take the more mistakes and failure you are going to have to deal with.  They learn from them, bounce back and drive forward with even more determination.

So at Key Universal you need not fear failure, as we recognise it is an accelerated path to great success in a safe supported environment.  We want you to have a go, to propose new ideas, to criticise the way we do things.   We like to recruit people with initiative and then encourage it.
