For example, a small solar system (eg having 10 solar modules) can be cleaned simply by washing with water and wiping with a soft cloth. However, the same method cannot be used for a larger system using hundreds of panels. And for large MW solar power plants, the system and technology choices will further vary depending on the availability of water.
In this article, we will discuss the ideal method for most roof and captive solar systems with around 50 to 1000 panels installed on a site. Primarily cleaning panels requires a wash period with water and gentle cleaning with a soft brush.

How many times should solar panels be cleaned?
The frequency of cleaning depends on a number of factors.
The first criterion is the location and dustiness of the area. For example, areas that are very dusty should have a weekly cleaning schedule. But for less dusty areas, every two weeks or a monthly cleaning schedule is sufficient
Another criterion is the availability of water to clean the panels. In the case of areas where water supply is difficult, it is not recommended to have a very high frequency of treatment due to the limited availability of water.
Another point is the user friendliness and access to the solar panels installation area. Small tradeoffs in cleaning frequency are acceptable in the case of limited labor availability or other typical site problems.
It is important to ensure that the surface of the solar panels is regularly cleaned in order to get the best solar power yield from the solar system. Of course, the frequency and need for cleaning varies with the type of system and the convenience of the owner.
Also, a very important point to keep in mind is making use of the right cleaning solution to ensure the surface of the solar panels does not get damaged in the process. Otherwise, it is not possible to remove scratches after the solar panels is damaged.
